This week I’m participating in a fun blog hop – just in time for Canada Day! For our hop, we’re featuring Canadian pattern designers. How Canadian is that, eh? I’ll be trying a new pattern and new-for-me company. Our blog hop starts today over on Happy Okapi and there is a list of wonderful deals in the post – all to celebrate Canada’s birthday. I don’t mind the fit of the rtw bras I own right now, but I would love to learn how to sew one eventually!
Oh, RTW does not work well for me. Sewing bras is such fun.
I actually like my RTW bras (if i’m understanding what RTW means). They are actually nursing bras, but oh so comfortable! I have never made my own bra before, but sounds interesting.
Sewing your own bras is very interesting indeed.
I have a couple RTW that are fine, but they’re nearing the end of their life!!! So I need to get time to make a few more that I can wear. I love my Maya!!!
Oh, I have so many bras I want to sew and life is getting in the way. I want to make a Maya too.
Now that I have a properly fitting bra with a smaller band and larger cup from a “real” bra store, I love the fit of my RTW bra. Since I specialize in bridal and formal alterations, I am frequently discussing the benefits of a proper fitting bra… and that requires going to a specially store. I would love to add bra and corset making to my repertoire as it is impossible to find really low back bras that work with the abundance of low back gowns available.
Angela, you sound like you’ve found a good fit… but sewing your own would be a good fit too.
Have yet to find a RTW that fits and is comfortable. Generally I have to alter brand new bras before I can wear them. I am so ready to make my own!
Rochelle, I really know how you feel, and encourage you to try and make your own.
I really dislike the fit of ready-to-wear bras… I’m really not ”standard” and just hated to go shopping for days to end up with a bra that was the least ill-fitting I found! But now I started to sews mines and it’s game changing! I’m so happy and comfortable 🙂
Lolie, I’m glad you’ve found an answer! Making our own really does change everything.
I am researching and exploring the idea of making my own bras. I would love to find the perfect pattern, tutorial and supplies since I do have a hard to find size. Getting good pricing for all would be great.
Diana, I highly recommend the Craftsy classes on bra-making. If you wait a couple of days until I post my blog for the Canada Day blog hop, I’ll have a 50% off link for them. As for suppliers, I use Bra-Makers Supply. I think her patterns are the best, and her supplies are the best too.
I love bras and own quite a few. Bali fits me fine. While I have no desire to make my own bras, I do have some bra design ideas in mind that I would like to see made.
Mary, you are one of the fortunate ones to find a RTW bra that fits. If I could have found one that fit, I would never have made my own.
I haven’t dared to do bras yet though I should–I hate spending ridiculous amounts on RTW bras!
Fenna, I was looking at $150+ for RTW bras. I am so happy now I’m making my own.
I am retired and seldom wear a bra, lol
Carol, I take it you never found one that fit well or comfortably. It’s not too late!
RTW fit OK. Have sewn bras in the distant past (30 years), Maybe I should give it a try again.
Laura, I’m sure patterns have changed in the last 30 years. There are also wonderful Craftsy classes available now too.
I am so enjoying getting know more Canadian designers, so many awesome and talented ladies.
Me too, Sheila! There really are so many talented resources we have right here.
I have never attempted to make my own bra. It sounds very tempting. Trying to find a bra that fits well is almost impossible. Bra shopping is on of my least favourite things to do.
Oh Kay, I know exactly how you feel. That’s why I make my own. There are really great resources out there.
