Ivory Clover Boy Briefs

This is a short but sweet post.

The House Morrighan Clover Boy Brief panty pattern is one of my favorite patterns. It just might be my favorite, narrowly beating out KwikSew 2286. Most of my makes are a full hipster with lace trim, but I decided to make one of my Clovers with a little more lace this time. I had a hard time finding Ivory cotton Lycra that wasn’t almost white. Clearly I did find some though.

Here you can see this is close. It’s not an exact match, but I’ve long given up finding cotton Lycra that matches exactly. I’m going for coordinating now.  That’s pretty close in color. The other ‘Ivory’ I bought was a lot more white.

Here’s that second pair I teased about earlier – the one with more lace.  These are darling! I added some narrow plush band elastic inside the waist because this is really stretchy stretch lace. I love this set!

I have a few more pairs planned, but I’m still waiting on elastics. Hopefully they’ll get here soon.

A Couple of Kitten Briefs

My son and DIL love cats. They have two, and call them my grand-kitties.

I saw this gorgeous stretch rayon fabric and knew exactly what I wanted to make for my ‘kids’.

Isn’t that adorable for a couple of cat fans? They were both going to get undies with cats on them.

His

For my son I used the PUG Michael pattern. It’s similar to SAXX in that it has a cup for support and comfort.

I’ve made this pattern before and my son likes them.In the past I’ve made a front opening for these briefs, but I was thinking these would be more for sleepwear than daily wear. As a result I didn’t make the front opening this time.  I think he’ll like them.

Hers

For my DIL I used the House Morrighan Clover Boys Brief.

I really like this pattern, and sadly it’s not on Etsy anymore. None of the House Morrighan patterns are. I don’t know where they can be found now.

Oh, both briefs are so cute.

They were both fun to sew, and the material is cute and so soft.

I don’t have a lot of experience sewing on this type of elastic waistband, and the first time I did a few years ago, it looked terrible! This time I did much better, with just one little pucker at the back on hers.

Is it Salmon or Is It Coral

Looking at this gorgeous color led me on an internet search of just what is the difference between Coral and Salmon.

If you’re wondering just what color started me on this, it was the gorgeous color in this lace.

To be honest, I’m still not sure. I think it falls somewhere in-between the two colors. And I like them both too, but I decided this was closer to coral.

To match my lovely new coppery coral bra, I made (again) my two favorite panty patterns. I really do have other that I like too, so need to not limit myself. Hmm. I might need another set or two next month Just to break into some other patterns.

Here’s my KS2286.  I used a peachy colored elastic on the legs to match the copper of the cups and band, but I wanted the rest shades of coral.

Oh, I still like my KS2286s. They have a bit of a ’80s vibe to them, they’re still adorable.

And my Clover Boyshorts

Oh, just as adorable!

Here’s the full set of matchy matchy.

Just lovely.

One of these days, I’m going to find some perfectly matchy copper!

Let me know if you think this is coral or salmon.

Burnt Orange is a Lovely Color

I love my new Josey in Burnt Orange with that gorgeous Autumn Glory lace. (See my previous post to find this bra kit.)

The colors are so rich and vibrant.

I had to make some matchy matchy to go with this lovely bra.

I pulled out my two favorite patterns, but I have to admit, one of them is out-ranking the other one now.

I started with my favorite of many years now – KwikSew 2286.

This looks like an adorable hipster, but it sits much higher on.

Here’s my newest match.

I looked around, but I couldn’t find the color of lace I wanted, so I dyed this lace using Burnt Orange acid dye. It turned out perfectly!

You see, that’s a full coverage back. What the pattern shows is definitely not quite what you get. Still, these have been a favorite of mine for years now.

My other favorite is a newer pattern – at least in comparison. It’s a few years old now. It’s not quite a hipster either. It’s a labelled a boy brief, but it’s got curves. It’s the Clover by House Morrighan.

This pattern is edging out KS as my favorite. It’s more modern, and I think I’m preferring it over the other style.

Oh, I think these are cute.

You can see these have full coverage too, but they sit a little lower over the leg.

Both of these turned out perfectly, and match so well with my Burnt Orange Josey bra.

That is some perfectly matching matchy matchy.

Stocking the Panty Drawer

I decided it was time to restock my panty drawer with some new makes. All my pretty new bras deserved to have pretty new matchy matchy rather than old and much worn.

I have a few favorite patterns, so decided I’d make a few of each of those.

First up, one of my all time favorite panty patterns is Kwik Sew 2286. It’s an out-of-print pattern now, but it does turn up on ebay and etsy from time to time.

I love this pattern for a hipster panty. In fact, one of the first panties I ever made were a clone of some La Vie En Rose panties. These are pretty much the same pattern. How adorable are these 2286s? I love the leopard lace trim on these too. That trim was cut in half lenthwise to make it narrow enough to use. It’s actually 3″ lace trim. I’ve done this before and it didn’t fray at all!

Another favorite pattern is the House Morrighan Clover Boybrief.

It’s a great modern take on a boyshort. It also has some curve built into the pattern. So rather than the sides being a straight side, they have a slight curve to them. I love that.

This pattern is called a boybrief, and unlike other boyshort patterns, it doesn’t have that center front and back seam.Lastly, to fill out my panty drawer, I made another pattern I’ve used before and one new one.I made the Sigrid panty by B,Wear, and one of their newer patterns – the Agnes.

Here are my new Sigrid panties. The Sigrid panty has some curves built into the pattern too. Lastly, here are my new Agnes panties. You might have noticed, the Sigred and the Agnes look pretty much the same from the front. But they don’t look the same from the back. The Agnes doesn’t come up as high, and is a bit cheekier. Agnes has an option for what style of back you want too. You can have the Brazilian (Agnes), or a thong style (Astrid).

I have one more pattern I want to make. The Studio Costura Eva panties. I love the leg detail on these panties. However, I really love my hipster height for a panty. Hmm. I might try to hack them. That just might be a plan for 2022.

Halla Agnes – Libelle Round 4 Pre-Order

I had one more adorable meter of fabric from Libelle Sewing’s Round 4 Pre-Order, and I was thinking another House Morrighan Abbie. But, my hubby thought this material was too cute to not be seen, so he requested something I would wear outside.

I chose my favorite summer top – the halla swing top and dress.Aren’t these Kawaii Cherries adorable? The link will take you right to them. This is such a lovely bright cheerful print. I think my hubby was right on this one – it is too cute to stay indoors.

My halla agnes

I made a swing top this time. My favorite agnes has been a tunic length, which is between the top and the dress. However, I’d need more than 1 meter of fabric for that. As it was, I was just a tad short to make the top.

I just happened to have some of that gorgeous red and black lace I used for the Frankie/Clover panties sitting on my cutting table.I immediately changed my pattern to include the lace.

Here’s my Kawaii Cherry lace halla agnes. Those happy little cherries look even prettier with some gorgeous lace. And I have to say, ‘Well done!’ getting that line of polka dots around the neck band. I didn’t even plan that. That was a happy accident.

Here’s a close up of the lace and neckline.Aren’t the polka dots perfect? Yes. That turned out very well seeing as I was using whatever bits were left over for the bands.

Here’s the side view.So cute!

And the view from the back. This material is lovely to sew. It’s a Cotton Lycra with very good recovery. And it’s almost my last project for Round 4 Pre-Order.

I had just enough to make one more pair of Clover Boybriefs for Em.

Em’s Clover Boybriefs

Oh, these cheery little cherries are even more adorable as Clover Boybriefs.

I had talked to Em, and she said she loves the lace trim even more than the bands. That turned out to be a good thing as I was out of fabric after cutting these out and had to use the lace trim to finish them.

Here’s the side view.Yes. These are really adorable.

And the back view. The trim helps them give just a little more coverage on the back.

The Libelle Sewing Round 4 Pre-Order ends on March 24th. There’s also still time to take advantage of the Warehouse Sale. They have lace, elastics, bra kits, and so much more.Happy creating!

A Few Leftovers

I still have a few projects left over from 2018 I want to get done. I decided these would be the first sewing projects I finished in 2019. As well, I have a free House Morrighan pattern hack for you this week. See the bottom of this post.

Clover Briefs

There was a pair of House Morrighan Clover Briefs that were mostly sewn sitting on my cutting table. They were waiting for the bands to be put on the legs. That was it. But Christmas came, and visiting, and New Year’s, and we went to the mountains. There were a lot of reasons I wasn’t sewing. Those Clover Briefs waited for me though. These are adorable too. I made them in the reverse of the color block I made my first ones.Although the bands for the waist and legs are easy, and do look nice, I still  prefer lace trim for finishing my panties.

Here they are from the side. And from the back. Well, I can say, I definitely don’t like how the bands are flipping up in the photos. Good thing they don’t do that when they’re on me. I’ve got more to fill them out than my display.

Another Clover Boybrief for Em

Em loved this pattern too. So much so, she requested another pair. Instead of the Clover briefs, which I prefer, she asked for the boy-leg opening.

She also requested a color combo, and for them to be finished with bands. Em prefers bands to lace trim.

Here are Em’s Clovers in pink and ivory.

Oh, these are darling! When I was sewing them together, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the two colors, but seeing them on the display, they look great!

Here’s the side view.  And the back view.  Oh, they are sweet. And it’s nice to see panties that fit my display perfectly.

Just so you can see all the ways I’ve made the Clover boy briefs, here’s a collage of what I’ve done with the pattern.

Free Pattern Hack

House Morrighan has released a free pattern hack only for members of their House Morrighan Makers Facebook group. This pattern is for a nursing hack for the Poppy, Dahlia, or Abbie patterns. House Morrighan Clover Boybrief

There was one more House Morrighan pattern being tested before the  holiday season began: The Clover Boybrief pattern. This pattern has some similar features to the Ivy Brief (also by House Morrighan). It includes patterns pieces for the bands for both the waist and the legs. I love that. For some, it’s a very little thing but I like that the bands are included.

The pattern also offers a few different ways of making the briefs. You can use bands to finish the legs and waist or you can use elastic to finish them. You can make a boyshort style, or a brief style. And you can have a contoured waist. I’m interested in that contoured waist. Don’t you love all these options? I do. Also, I really like the shape of these. For boyshorts, these actually work for me. There is some curve built in.

Clover Boybrief

Here is my first test of the Clover Boybrief. This is the high brief with boy legs. This one was to check the sizing. And the sizing was spot on. I made these up from some cotton Lycra I had in my stash. I also tested the pattern for Em in CL.

Em’s Clovers

Here are the Clover Boybriefs I tested for Em. These are also in a cotton Lycra, but instead of matching bands, I used a contrasting color.I really liked this pattern and knew I’d want to make more for myself. Em also requested more. So this style is a hit with both of us. It was time to have some fun with the pattern.

Matching Set

I hadn’t made any panties to match my new Ruby bra, so decided I liked the Clover Boybriefs so much that I’d use the pattern to make my matching set. Here’s my Ruby bra. The same lace I used for this bra, and a previous Angie bra, was now being used to make the Clover Boybriefs.

I cut out two pair of panties, both with color-blocking, but I was only able to finish one pair. Gift sewing took over all other sewing.

Here are my new Clovers Boybriefs, with contour band and brief legs:I’ve used black and black cherry cotton Lycra for these, and rather than bands or elastic as the pattern calls for, I’m using black lace trim. I’m loving these panties!

Here’s my new Clover & Ruby set:Here they are from the back. Oh, this is a lovely set. I need to hurry up and get all my gifts sewn up so I can finish a second pair for me, and for Em.

The Clover pattern is on sale today for 20% off! You can find it here.

Happy creating & Merry Christmas!
