Such a Sweet Shelley

After the beginner class I taught last month, there was enough demand for another class. So I scheduled a Shelley class.

Jeanette (Bra Making Academy) had left her Shelley bra set at the store, and I could use it on the display to show just how pretty the Shelley pattern is.

Although this is a really adorable set, I wanted to put my own mark on things, so to speak, so sewed up the cutest little Shelley.

I went through my stash and found just enough lace to go with some platinum duoplex and adorable pink findings kit. This was a quick sew, or at least it felt that way for me. I’m used to sewing a larger size.

Using the form’s measurements (which I got over the phone!) I made up a 2.75 BCD with a 26″ band. I have to say I didn’t do too badly on the size. I think I could go up one cup size to get an even better fit, but this is pretty close.

Here’s the full display at the store. She’s wearing a lovely new Shelley bra, with the most adorable little Veronica panties

Isn’t that the cutest? Just one more photo. I love this lace I used for this demo Shelley.   It makes me think of Spring. I’m ready for Spring. How about you?

I’ll be honest with you. I haven’t even looked at my pants pattern this week. I will re-look at it though. I’m determined!

Clover Boy Briefs in Grey

I wanted to make some new panties to match my lovely new Freja bras. I decided to make my new favorite – the House Morrighan Clover Boy Briefs.

I’m still having trouble with my hands, and all this comes at such a bad time. I’m taking the Pattern Fitting 101: Demystifying Fit from Head to Toe course from TomKat Stitchery. It’s a bit intensive, with sewing at least two garments per week! So far, I’m able to keep up, but with pain in both hands.

I’ll keep you posted on my makes from the course too.

Here are my newest Clovers.  They’re not fancy, but they will coordinate well with my platinum Freja bra.Initially, I was feeling a bit disappointed the lace trim was so dark, but it actually helps to bring the colors together a bit more. This was the last of my grey cotton Lycra fabric, and to get two pair of panties out of it, I had to add a seam to the back of one pair. Shhh. No one will know but us.

I’m feeling very motivated to sew up a whole fall/winter bra collection. Let’s hope I can sew that much.Yes, I do think that darker lace trim really does help to bring these two together.

Ivory Clover Boy Briefs

This is a short but sweet post.

The House Morrighan Clover Boy Brief panty pattern is one of my favorite patterns. It just might be my favorite, narrowly beating out KwikSew 2286. Most of my makes are a full hipster with lace trim, but I decided to make one of my Clovers with a little more lace this time. I had a hard time finding Ivory cotton Lycra that wasn’t almost white. Clearly I did find some though.

Here you can see this is close. It’s not an exact match, but I’ve long given up finding cotton Lycra that matches exactly. I’m going for coordinating now.  That’s pretty close in color. The other ‘Ivory’ I bought was a lot more white.

Here’s that second pair I teased about earlier – the one with more lace.  These are darling! I added some narrow plush band elastic inside the waist because this is really stretchy stretch lace. I love this set!

I have a few more pairs planned, but I’m still waiting on elastics. Hopefully they’ll get here soon.

Pink Clovers

To go along with my new pink Freja bra, I also made a pair of pink Clover Boybriefs.

I really do still love this pattern. This is one I make again and again. This one, then my TNT Kwik Sew 2286, and then the B,Wear’s Sigrid.I heard House Morrighan is working on getting a new website set up. But I don’t think it’s up yet. If you’re loving this pattern and want it for yourself she said you can email her on IG to get the pattern.I’m not sure if it’s the Barbie effect, but I’m really loving the pink right now. Normally I’m more a fan of fuchsia, but I’m really enjoying this set.

Although these look like a full brief, they are more a hipster on me than on my display.   Here’s the bra and panty together.I’m happy to have another full set to enjoy.

This second set of panties was sewn while watching the beginning of the Bra Sewing Bee. I have a little space set up with my computer, a cutting board, and my sewing machine.I took this photo while enjoying Nikki’s class on Fitting As We Age. I’m loving the Bee so far this year. I have a few more sewing/adjusting patterns projects planned for during the Bee too.

Pretty Pink Panel Panties

When I decided to make a new bra, I had no idea I was jumping on the Barbie trend, but that seems to be exactly what I did. I made a pink matching set.

My new Pink Freja bra needed some lovely pink panties to match. For the first pair I chose the Rad Patterns Panel PantiesPanel Undies PDF Sewing Pattern Underwear Pattern Panty image 1 I’ve always thought these were so adorable.

For mine, I used a kit from BMS that I had. These were such cute kits.

My panel isn’t as forward as the original pattern as I used my favorite TNT pattern as my template. Kwik Sew 2286 and simply made a panel on the front for it. I might have to tweak it if I want those side seams more forward. I had used the pattern in the past. And I thought they were adorable. But when I looked for the pattern, I found the more recent version.

Here’s the side view. You can see the seam is sitting just forward. With the seam sitting forward just a bit like that, it makes the lace trim match up better for joining it.

You can see on this older make the lace trim joins at a bit of a point. With the seam forward, it’s just a little neater.

And the back view. I have some solid pink cotton Lycra for a second pair of panties. I’m just not sure which pattern I want to make yet.

Here’s the full set together.     Some good news – my hand is healing and improving. So I’ll be back soon with more makes.

The Smallest Bralette and Panty

It’s been a busy few months for me. I had overcommitted to too many things, but things are slowing down a bit and I’m catching up.

One of the things I was catching up on was sewing a new pair of panties for the store display. I wanted to sew something that reflected my own style and what I would teach more. For me, that meant cotton Lycra rather than power net for a main fabric for panties. This is a lovely heathered cotton Lycra from BMS. I’ve also used the Veronica Panty Basics pattern from there.

It felt really good to get these done as I’ve been promising them for more than a month.

Central Sewing has also had a few requests for a Bralette class, so there was no better time to sew up a matching bralette.I used the Poppy pattern from House Morrighan. I made the size 6 but graded the cup to a B cup instead of the C/D cup in the pattern.

Here’s the sweet little set together. So cute! One of my favorite things about this set is the little hints of color coming through the bralette. The reason for this is the tulle I used to line it. It has stretch in one direction so worked for this. It’s this multicolored tulle from B,Wear.Isn’t this lovely? I’ve used it a few times now, and been so happy with it every time. Because it has stretch, I’ve used it to cover foam cups.

With the bralette, there’s just bits of this lovely color coming through.

Above there are hints of pink, blue, and yellow.

Along another part of the hem is yellow, pink and blue. I really love how this turned out with these bits of color peeking through.

Here is the cute little set on the display when you come into the store. The date for the bralette, and the panty class will be with the display soon.

That really is an adorable little set, and I’m pretty sure the smallest set I’ve made so far.

Brenda Briefs View D

I made another pair of the new Porcelynne pattern – the Brenda Brief. The pattern has four styles, and loving lace as I do, I made the other style with lace.

I have a lovely black and red lace on my cutting table so thought I’d make something that would coordinate with that.

I think these are darling! I really do love the lace on the side on this pattern. So pretty.

One thing I did differently on these than the last pair is I didn’t use FOE.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

This is clear to see, I used a fabric band for the waist instead of FOE. This is quite easy to see.

This is harder to see (although I overexposed it) I also used fabric bands instead of FOE at the leg opening. I wanted something just a little softer, and thought I’d experiment.

I think it turned out wonderfully. It looks the same as FOE.

Isn’t that a lovely side view?

Lastly, there’s the back view.

Another very pretty view of that lace.

These look like briefs on my model here, but they are true hipsters. They aren’t a difficult sew, but the joining of the FOE and lace is a touch tricky. Thankfully, there’s a sew-along video coming to show you how to do that.

This is another lovely pattern from Porcelynne.

Porcelynne’s Brenda Brief Pattern

I recently made the new Brenda Brief panties from Porcelynne. I have to admit, I was taken with the lace at the side of the leg. It’s such a pretty feature. It can also be color blocked, but it was the lace that won me over.  Brenda Brief Pattern - image 1 I knew exactly what I wanted to make with this pattern too. I wanted something to match my new Prima Donna inspired Josey bra.So, here is my newest make – the Brenda Brief pattern. Oh, well you know how I feel about these. I say the same thing over and over. I love them! I really love this lace! You can find it at B,Wear.

I love this side view. I love the lace at the side.  Isn’t that just lovely? What a great way to make a matching set by using the same lace at the leg opening. Or do a little scrap busting by using the color blocking option.

I really like this pattern. It comes in four styles. Two briefs (view A & B) which sit higher, and two lower styles (view C & D) which are close to a hipster. I plan to make the hipsters next!

Is it Salmon or Is It Coral

Looking at this gorgeous color led me on an internet search of just what is the difference between Coral and Salmon.

If you’re wondering just what color started me on this, it was the gorgeous color in this lace.

To be honest, I’m still not sure. I think it falls somewhere in-between the two colors. And I like them both too, but I decided this was closer to coral.

To match my lovely new coppery coral bra, I made (again) my two favorite panty patterns. I really do have other that I like too, so need to not limit myself. Hmm. I might need another set or two next month Just to break into some other patterns.

Here’s my KS2286.  I used a peachy colored elastic on the legs to match the copper of the cups and band, but I wanted the rest shades of coral.

Oh, I still like my KS2286s. They have a bit of a ’80s vibe to them, they’re still adorable.

And my Clover Boyshorts

Oh, just as adorable!

Here’s the full set of matchy matchy.

Just lovely.

One of these days, I’m going to find some perfectly matchy copper!

Let me know if you think this is coral or salmon.

Burnt Orange is a Lovely Color

I love my new Josey in Burnt Orange with that gorgeous Autumn Glory lace. (See my previous post to find this bra kit.)

The colors are so rich and vibrant.

I had to make some matchy matchy to go with this lovely bra.

I pulled out my two favorite patterns, but I have to admit, one of them is out-ranking the other one now.

I started with my favorite of many years now – KwikSew 2286.

This looks like an adorable hipster, but it sits much higher on.

Here’s my newest match.

I looked around, but I couldn’t find the color of lace I wanted, so I dyed this lace using Burnt Orange acid dye. It turned out perfectly!

You see, that’s a full coverage back. What the pattern shows is definitely not quite what you get. Still, these have been a favorite of mine for years now.

My other favorite is a newer pattern – at least in comparison. It’s a few years old now. It’s not quite a hipster either. It’s a labelled a boy brief, but it’s got curves. It’s the Clover by House Morrighan.

This pattern is edging out KS as my favorite. It’s more modern, and I think I’m preferring it over the other style.

Oh, I think these are cute.

You can see these have full coverage too, but they sit a little lower over the leg.

Both of these turned out perfectly, and match so well with my Burnt Orange Josey bra.

That is some perfectly matching matchy matchy.
